The following policies and procedures have been established to ensure the health and safety of children served by Grandview Baptist Church. Questions regarding any policy or procedure need to be directed to the Discipleship Committee. We thank you in advance for your cooperation in creating a favorable environment in which children can come to know the love of Christ.
1. Doors open to clubbers between 3:45 - 3:55 p.m.
2. Upon arrival, all clubbers will hang up their coats, check-in for the night and then report to their class row in the sanctuary. Leaders must be in the sanctuary by 3:45 p.m. to supervise the clubbers.
3. Club will start promtly at 4:00 p.m. and end at 5:30 p.m. Parents are expected to be at the church by 5:25 p.m. to pick up their children. If they have more than one child, they need to pick them up in the order of youngest to oldest.
4. All clubbers are to remain in the building until their parents or caregiver come to pick them up.
5. Children must be age 4 by September 1st, in preschool and potty trained before they can come to AWANA. NO EXCEPTIONS.
6. AWANA workers will be addressed with respect, such as Mr., Mrs. or Miss.
7. Respectful language is always expected before, during and after club meetings. Screaming, talking out of turn and swearing will not be tolerated.
8. Care and respect for church property will be shown at all times.
9. Pushing, shoving or rough housing is not allowed.
10. Running is allowed only in the game circle during game time.
11. Chewing gum, electronic games or electronic equipment will be left at home and not brought to the club.
12. After every activity, the Commander, Director or leader in charge will begin counting from one to five. By the time number five is reached, each clubber is expected to be waiting quietly for instructions for the next activity. In AWANA, leaders and clubbers are taught to respect the "five-count".
13. Uniforms and handbooks may be purchased when clubbers complete their entrance booklet. Upon receiving their uniform, the clubber needs to wear it to every AWANA meeting. Replacement uniforms are available for a fee.
14. Awards are presented only to clubbers who have and are wearing their uniform. If a clubber earns awards yet does not have a uniform, or is not wearing it, the Director for their age club will hold those awards for them until the clubber is in uniform.
15. Individual sections in the handbook MUST be passed in one session. A maximum of two helps per section are allowed. Normally a clubber will be allowed to complete and pass no more than five sections in a single meeting. Cubbies may pass a maximum of three sections in a single night.
16. Each clubber is expected to bring $0.25 per week or $8.00 per year for dues. These dues are used to purchase supplies and treats for the club.
17. Game Time is a privilege. In cases of extreme disorderliness, it may be revoked by the Commander or Director.
18. A clubber that is unable to successfully complete a minimum of one hadbook section in a single night will not participate in the next Game Time. They will use that time to work with their classroom leader or Director to do individualized handbook time to assist them in succeeding. This is not intended to be a punishment, but rather an opportunity to progress in their study of God's Word.
19. AWANA clubbers are encouraged to regularly attend club and Sunday School. They may attend Sunday School at a church other than Grandview Baptist and still receive AWANA credit for it. To receive credit their parent or Sunday school teacher needs to send a note with the clubber informing their AWANA Director of when and where they attended. For children that regularly attend another church for Sunday School, a form may be used which will record attendance per quarter. This form will then be given to the appropriate Director before a Sunday School attendance award is presented. To receive attendance awards, a clubber MUST comply with the following standards:
- No more than one unexcused absence per an eight week quarter of club.
- No more than four unexcused absences per two Sunday School quarters (26 weeks).
- Excused absences MUST be verified by a note from the parent or guardian.
- Excused absences include reasons beyond the clubber's control such as illness, family travel, etc.
- The number of allowable excused absences is at the discretion of the club Director.
DISCIPLINE
1. Commanders and Directors utilize the "three-count" for individuals not following club behavior standards. If a clubber receives three warnings in one meeting, he or she will be sent home for the night. Clubbers who have received a "three-count" warning and are sent home may return in the future if they agree to abide by the club rules. The Commander will determine whether the clubber will serve a one or two week suspension from AWANA.
2. Clubbers showing disruptive behavior will be taken home by their parents.
Aggressive Behavior
All children need to be able to participate in AWANA planned activities and need to be able to follow simple directions. As with all aggressive behaviors, parents are notified with each incident. Aggressive and hurtful behavior may include, but is not limited to: biting, hitting, kicking, pushing, pinching or swearing. Such behavior is not appropriate. We will use every appropriate method to help children control their frustrations and anger. However, if the cild can not gain self-control and is not responding to redirection using discipline/guidance techniques, then you will be called to pick up the child for the remainder of the night. If the behavior becomes an on-going issue and does not change, the following steps may be taken:
- Commander/Director coaching the child and contact with the parent.
- Commander/Director conference with the parents to make suggestions.
- Second conference at which time the parent may be asked to attend AWANA with the child so they will be available immediately to take the child home.
Any or all of the steps may be skipped or omitted as deemed appropriate, based on the extent of the aggressive behavior and circumstances.
Parents, We need your help
Moms and Dads are essential helpers in a child getting the most enjoyment from participation in AWANA. Please use the following checklist as a guideline:
- Help the child attend every week. Consistency will build friendships and achievements.
- Make sure they wear their uniform, tennis shoes and bring their handbook and Bible each week.
- Please have them dress modestly as they are in God's house and will also be playing games during game time.
- Be sure to arrive on time. AWANA starts at 4:00 p.m. with the opening ceremony. Promptness helps us to maintain good discipline and stay on schedule with each segment of the night. Do not drop children off earlier than 3:45 p.m. Thank you.
- Children are to be dropped off in the foyer when AWANA begins and picked up from their assigned classroom at 5:30 p.m.
- Help your child try to complete a section of their handbook each week at home.
- Leaders will be sensitive to the idividual needs of each child.
- Parents be sure to encourage the child. Children have more fun when their parents show interest in their accomplishments.
- When the weather is bad, please listen to KCID or KUOO for cancellations.
- Call the AWANA Commander or Directors if you have any questions.
